Internet Safety Curriculum Development 2012

During Spring 2012, a team of teachers from Cherokee County Schools developed the curriculum listed here.  They researched various online resources and chose specific Internet safety materials available online to target each grade cluster based on the Technology Course of Study.  Included are these sites: NetSmartz, CommonSense, CyberSmart, StaySafeOnline, and EasyTech.

Also, recommendations were included in the district’s course of study document in the form of an appendix to specifically target Internet safety instruction for students in Cherokee County Schools.  Each school is responsible for implementing the instruction based on their School Technology Plan.   The theme of the instructional program is “B-Safe Cherokee.”  All resources are available here on the district website.  Contact the Technology Office for training and assistance in using the curriculum.

Notes for Teachers:

  • Some lesson plans include YouTube videos. YouTube is a “staff-override” website that requires teacher access and monitoring. These videos would best be used whole group using a projector.
  • CommonSense lesson plans and handouts can be accessed here in PDF format. The videos can be accessed directly from the CommonSenseMedia website (links provided).
