Digital Citizenship Week – September 18-22, 2017

September 21st, 2017

Another important focus for Digital Citizenship Week deals with the legal and ethical use of copyrighted material available on the Internet. Technology makes it so easy to access images, video, music and other materials online. It is essential for teachers and students to understand that these materials belong to the person who created them – they are protected by Copyright Law. The Fair Use Act permits the use of copyrighted material for educational purposes so understanding the restrictions of Fair Use is a must for educators. The Internet allows anyone to share or post their creations online and the creator has choices about how their creations can be used.  Creative Commons is used to protect, share, and reuse these projects.
