I've forgotten/lost/didn't change my e-mail or network password, what do I do?
|
You have two different passwords that the Technology Office can change for you. One is your e-mail password and the other is your network password. These passwords are not the same thing.
If your AR, Star, or STI password needs changing, you will need to contact your local school technology person. The Technology Office will not change these passwords.
If your network or e-mail password is not working, send an e-mail message to Jimmy Myrick
(jmyrick@tiger1.tiger.org)
requesting that your password be reset. If you are not able to send an e-mail message, then ask your school technology contact person to send one for you or you may call the Technology Office at 779-3101.
Include the following information in your e-mail message: Full Name, Username, School, and what password to change (e-mail or network) After your password has been changed, it will be sent to your school technology contact person. This ensures that you are the only person that receives the new password information.

When I try to logon to the network, I get the following message:
"No domain server was available to validate your password. You may not be able to gain access to some network resources." What does this mean?
|
This means that your computer is not communicating on the network. There are several different items that can cause this problem. Check the following items first and if the error persists, contact the Technology Office:
- Ensure that your computer is "plugged-in" to the network (the cable runs from the back of your computer to the jack in the wall).
- Ensure that CHEROKEE is entered in the Domain box.
- Reboot your computer and see if the same message appears again.
- See if anyone else in your schools is having the same problem. If so, it may be a problem with the network and not your computer.

Why am I getting 'Access Denied' messages when I try to visit a web site?
|
The Cherokee County School district uses Internet content filtering software. It filters pages based on a
URL being blocked (For example: www.whitehouse.com) and based on content.
When you see an 'Access Denied' message, it means that the page you requested was
blocked by the software. Filtering software is not perfect and may sometimes
block sites that should not be blocked. If this happens, follow the
procedure outlined in getting access to a site.

I really need access to a site for an educational reason. How can I get access?
|
If a site is blocked that you need to use for educational purposes, send
an e-mail message to Jimmy Myrick (jmyrick@tiger1.tiger.org) requesting that the site be
unblocked. Include the following information in your e-mail request: Description of lesson plan site is being used for (including the educational purpose), URL of the site (For example: www.aids.com), your school name, and your e-mail address. You will be notified when the site is unblocked via e-mail.

Why does my e-mail and web browser work but STI and Accelerated Reader won't?
|
STI and Accelerated Reader are server-based programs that are stored on the network server. To access them you must be "logged on to" the network using your login name and password. Doing this keeps kids (and adults) who are not suppose be using STI or Accelerated Reader from doing so. E-mail and the Internet are not dependent upon the school server and are accessible without being "logged on to" the network.

Why can't I use my Hotmail account that I have at home in my classroom?
|
Hotmail, AOL mail, Lycos Mail and other providers of Internet based e-mail services are prohibited from use on the Cherokee County School District by the Acceptable Use Policy adopted by the Board of Education.
The reason is because of the lack of control that teachers, principals, and the Technology Office has over how these services are used (or misused) by students and teachers.
The educational mission of the district network is for educational purposes, which is not the same as the reason for having a computer in the home. The school district can be held liable for the actions of users on the network with regard to e-mail content and usage. Before filtering was instituted, two schools within the district had already experienced major problems with misuse and abuse of these type services. If a teacher or their students have a valid educational reason for an e-mail account that is web based, there is an alternative available for teaching learning purposes. Contact the Technology Office for additional information and permission forms.

Why do I have to click the mouse twice sometimes and only once other times?
|
The left mouse button is used by Windows to select something or cause the computer to do something. The windows default setting for mouse clicking is a single click selects something and a double click causes something to happen, in most cases. Like all windows operations there are exceptions to the rules. A good rule of thumb is if you doing something in windows single left click first and then if nothing happens double left click.
