teachers. Each site has been screened and reviewed by the Technology Office and
is followed by a brief description of the site and what it has to offer
teachers. The number at the end of each description is the estimated time in

20min
Blackboard.com - Blackboard.com is an
educational site for teachers in all levels of education. Have plenty of time to
review the site before logging on. Go to ABOUT BLACKBOARD.COM first to see the
available resources then follow the instructions. One area allows teachers to
set up lessons, practice tests, and activities for students and the information
is made available online to students. It would be a large task to put your
lessons online but you could start and add to it as time permitted. I would
start with the critical things like SAT9 objectives and ALHSGE objectives and
then build on that. The down side to this site is your information is available
to everyone on the net. Take a look at what others have posted. The site is
worthyour time and has a great potential but is a time consumer. Don't put
anything up unless youintend to follow up and use it with students for
educational experiences. 45min.
Book Adventure - A web site by Houghton
Mifflin to promote reading at the elementary level. There are sections for
students, parents, and teachers. You MUST register to use the resources which
means giving them your e-mail address. Choose "Tour the Site" on the left side
of the screen for all the details of how to register as a teacher, student or

would be very benefitial to students and can involve parents. Registeration
takes about 5 min then 30 min to become familiar with the site.

Chemistry. 10 min.
Civil War Center

photographs. Most of the images were made under the supervision of Mathew B.
Brady, and include scenes of military personnel, preparations for battle, and
battle after-effects. The collection also includes portraits of both Confederate
and Union officers, and a selection of enlisted men. If you are teaching civil
war history assigning students to find and analyze these photographs would be a
good curriculum integration effort. 20min.
History Civil War
Official Records. - They finally put the "official" records of the American
Civil War on line. If you're a Civil War buff or if you have students interested
in the great American conflict use this site to the official information. It may

CNNfyi.com - CNN's addition to the web for

the navigation of the site. It has something for both students and teachers with
links to all of CNN's resources and others outside the are of news, sports and
weather. The student page has a "Game Room" that had several games. The only one
I found educational was the word search puzzle which is questionable. Worth a
look site. 15min.
Coloring.com - A site for the
preschool and kindergarten teacher. An online coloring book forkids and no
crayons needed. This site could teach the NETS objectives for K-2just by letting
a student access it. The site asks for each student to registerand the teacher
would probably need to assist the student in doing this. However I colored an
alien without registering and had fun doing it. Thepicture is reloaded each time
a color is selected and placed so it takes alittle patience if your connection
is slow. I didn't take time to see ifthe picture could be printed but I'm sure
it could by selecting File andPrint from the browser menu. 20min.
The One Computer

a FREE site for teachers. YOu have to join/register to have access but it's
worth a look. 30 min.
Eyewitness - Witness History
Through The Eyes of Those Who Lived It. Good site history teachers could assign
to a student. Caution, it's a commercial site. The bottom part of the page has
links to other commercial sites. The "select game" site is a deception. When
clicked on will carry the user to a site that sells computer games - a natural
trap for students. The history sites at the top are good and have pictures. Be
careful if you choose the "history in sound" icon, it requires real player be
installed to use the files that download automatically. Both real player and the
sound files from history take up a LOT of drive space and there is no easy way
to delete them from your hard drive. It can be done but you have to know what
you are doing. Study the page and then make a spicific assignment for a student
or group of students to look at one thing for a report to the class on a history
topic. (i.e. What happend at Appomattox?) The menu of history is across the top
just below Eye Witness. 15 Min.

by a teacher and their class. The Washington D.C. trip is being done by a 6th
grade class in the D.C. area. I assume there will be pictures and descriptions
by students that can be shared with your class. This would make a great ongoing
project for a small group of students if managed correctly and reported to the
entire class. 30 min

Math in daily life. - The
title is misleading in that the site is a higher level learning experience for
the upper grade students. Excellent approach to math for those students who ask
"why do I need to know this?" They call each section an "exhibit" but it's a
cleverly disguised lesson about math. The site is a refreshing approach to math
and the playing to win option explains why playing the lottery is a waste of

exhibit to a student for an assignment. 20 min.

Looking for lesson plans on the Web? Then STOP, you're here! Within the 7
subject area pages, you'll find about 500 links to web sites organized by topic
and grade level, which provide access to thousands of lesson plans. These pages
are updated and reviewed often, so visit frequently. I personally don't like to
teach for someone else's lesson plans but I found a lot of ideas and some good
resources to copy and paste in my on development. Because the site offered the
lesson plans free to teachers this is not copyright infringement. However, be
sure to give credit where credit is due. 10min.
